Why Become a Professional Organizer?

By Linda M. DePaz © 2005 Be Clutter-Free. All Rights Reserved.

Does a career where you help people improve the quality of their lives & make money from that sound appealing to you? Well, as a professional organizer, you can do both! Of course making money will come over time. But, the satisfaction of helping people more than compensates for the slow start that usually accompanies a new business.

If you offer hands-on organizing, you can reap quite a few rewards. Not only do you have the opportunity to meet and get to know interesting people, but you can watch them make a transition to a new way of life! Being able to visually see their facial expression change from stressful, worry wrinkles to smiles & bright eyes is an extraordinary feeling!

Not only does the person you are organizing with benefit, but you can witness the entire family change. Children may remark to you that they can spend more time with their parents. They may look at you and tell you proudly that their room is all picked up and they did it themselves. Husbands talk about how content their wives are. They may even tell you about how they didn't miss an important school function because of a new system that you helped them implement as a family. And usually you will hear wives mention that their work load seems much less than it used to be. They may even relate to you that the family is finally pitching in to help around the house.

If you decide to do virtual organizing, you will receive emails of thank-you's just for your excellent advice or even just the little extra motivation that they needed. What a feeling! You will 'see' people's lives change. Instead of reading questions & frustrations over things that too many people face when trying to get organized, you will start to receive emails in which you can 'hear' their joy over their experiences of finally things falling into place. Sometimes, your clients may even ask you how to start their own organizing business!

Personally, when starting my own business, I wanted to help others get organized. That was it. I never thought of helping people start their own organizing businesses. Eventually, I started receiving more and more emails from a variety of people asking me for advice on how they could start their own business.Becoming a Professional Organizer Start-Up Guide Kit

I started my online class, Learn to Be a Professional Organizer to accomplish this. At first, even I didn't think it would be as rewarding as organizing people. But then I started getting the emails. These emails contained remarks about what a great time they are having in their new career.

I never knew I was going to receive such joy and satisfaction from a career! But then, it hit me! Not only was I helping people start off in this new, rewarding profession, but, had I not been there to help them along, they may not have pursued it. Clients would have lost out. They wouldn't have had their personal organizer!

One more great thing about being a professional organizer: continuous learning! This isn't a career that gets stale. You learn new techniques, you learn how to customize organizing techniques to the variety of clients. Not only that, but there are always new organizational tools being developed! Those are always fun!

Finally, you can learn how to expand your expertise. Joining different organizations that focus on a variety of client-types. For instance, you can learn how to help people who suffer from ADD/ADHD, who are disabled, who are chronically disorganized, as well as facing other obstacles.

So, why become a professional organizer?

  • You can make a difference in people's lives whether they are clients or other's who want to learn how to organize others.

  • You can continually learn about organizing techniques, tools, and specialties.

  • You will have a career that won't let you down - you only reap the rewards!
